Out Of Town...

Hello all,

I've been out of town since early last week, hence why there was no show. I'm going to be out of town for the remainder of the week, so I won't be in the studio.

I'm currently trying to upload a prerecorded show so that you guys have something to get by, but I can't promise my internet connection will cooperate. I'll post any updates if I'm able to upload a show.

I'll be back live next week.

Prerecorded Show Tonight...

I'll be at the Ringo Starr concert tonight, which means I won't be in the studio doing my show. I've left a delicious recorded show for you all to enjoy, including plenty of Ringo tracks.

See you guys next week.

Ringo Starr In Concert At Hard Rock Live...

The least-famous and least-talented of the Beatles will be performing at the Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, FL this Thursday, July 3rd. The All Starr Band this time will be comprised of Colin Hay, Billy Squier, Hamish Stuart, Edgar Winter, Gary Wright, and Gregg Bissonette.

What you can expect is for performances of each artist's more popular songs, with some more obscure tracks thrown in here and there. I saw Ringo the last time he was here back in 2006. It was a good show, despite getting completely drenched by torrential rainfall.

I'll be there this Thursday. If you've never seen a Beatle in real life and have always wanted to, you should go. It's not like getting tickets for Paul McCartney is a simple task, anyway...

Dallas Rock Radio: A Review Of The Passerby...

While in Texas, I got a chance to flip through the radio dial and see what the Dallas/Fort Worth area has to offer. As expected, there was way more country/southern rock stations than I care for. Then again, just one country station in any given radio market is too much.

Rather than suffering from a lack of rock stations altogether, which is the case for Miami, Dallas suffers from insane redundancy.

Basically, all rock stations in the Dallas/Forth Worth area have the same format. They all play a random hodgepodge rock format, ranging in both time era and subgenre. For the most part it's all crap, with crappy bands like Evanescence, Incubus, and Linkin Park. Occasionally you'll hear some gems like the Clash, the Smiths, and other fun alternative rock.

While it's a bit of a step up from Miami rock radio, it's by no means a rock oasis.

Zeta Returns on HD Radio

Zeta has returned to the Miami radio dial, this time on Big 105.9's HD-2 channel. If you have an HD radio, just tune in to Big 105.9 and flip over to the HD-2 channel. I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet, but I'm told it sounds pretty good.

Review: Ringo Starr - Liverpool 8

While the overwhelming majority of people are quick to pass over the musical talent and ever important influence Ringo has had on modern music, I'm one of the people who choose to love him unconditionally and defend him in any "best drummer ever" discussion.

Ringo's a solid musician. His drumming in The Beatles was amazing, despite the fact it may not have been technically extravagant as John Bonham or Ginger Baker. Ringo did one thing better than anyone else did, and that's drum to compliment a song, not to attract attention. Since this post isn't supposed to be just about Ringo, I guess I'll move on to his latest album, Liverpool 8.

I suppose we should start off with the title. While we all know where Liverpool comes from, I think the idea with "8" is that it's a continuous number in the way it is written, thus meaning he wanted to say how Liverpool will always be an important part of his life and never-ending.

His 2005 album, Choose Love, was great. Sadly, I can't say the same about Liverpool 8. It's essentially a watered-down version of Choose Love. There's the same general mood to it, but the tracks just don't match up, and while we all know Ringo is all about "peace and love," that's all he talks about in this album. Four of the tracks on the album have the word "love" in the title, and those that don't are still talking either about peace or love. There's a similar theme to Paul McCartney's Memory Almost Full in which Ringo covers the subject of his mortality and being happy with how his life has gone, but it's just not done with the same genius and grace as Paul did it, though the last track is amazing.

There's some really pleasant tracks in the tracks, and I do enjoy this album, but it just doesn't match up to Choose Love. There's still more to come from Ringo, and I do think he's capable of another epic album, and no, I don't mean Choose Love was epic, so we have an amazing album to look forward to, I think.

If you're a Beatles fan, then I recommend Liverpool 8 just because it's your duty to check it out. However, if you're interested in getting into Ringo's solo career for the first time, I recommend checking out one of his first four albums, or Time Takes Time.

Keep rocking, Ringo.

Sadly, there will be no Audio Fossils show this week due to being preempted by a sports broadcast. I'll be back next week at the regular time.

You can still tune in to the Living End with Lamppost at 10pm for your 80s and 90s underground rock.

Also, you can look forward to this thing being updated more often for more on...provided something noteworthy actually happens.

43-Year-Old Ban On The Beatles In Israel Has Been Lifted...

I thought bans on things like musical groups haven't existed since the 60s, but apparently there's been a ban on The Beatles in Israel since 1965 because of the Israeli government's worries about them "corrupting" the youth. The Israeli government is officially apologizing for the whole manner and is now inviting Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr to visit during their 60th anniversary celebrations.

700MHz Auction Starts Today, Get Your Game Face On...

The almighty 700MHz auction begins today. For those of you completely out of the loop, TV stations are being forced to shut off their analog broadcasts and switching over to just broadcasting digital signals. When this happens, the 700MHz spectrum will clear out, so the FCC is bidding it out to be used for wireless broadband. Some of the big players hoping to get their hands on the spectrum are Google, Verizon, and Cox Communications. The 700MHz spectrum is essentially the most valuable spectrum that will be available for years. For those of you who want to keep up with it, choose Auction 73 on this page.

While Google is one of the big players, many are speculating that they're not really in it to win it, as they already got what they wanted when the FCC announced that the spectrum must be open, meaning devices supporting the future-Google Android platform will work on it. However, CEO Eric Schmidt has announced that they mean business, so we'll see.

Here's hoping Google wins on their continuing quest to take over the world!

If only this was televised and covered like the NFL Draft.

Ringo Walks Out Of Regis And Kelly, Song Performance Was Cut Too Much...

Ringo Starr was scheduled to perform on the Regis and Kelly show to promote his new Liverpool 8 album. After having his performance scheduled for months, the musical director insisted that Ringo cut his song short, which led to Ringo deciding to walk off the set. They asked for the song to be cut to 2 and a half minutes, or less. Ringo wasn't willing to cut his song that much, so he left the set saying "God bless and goodbye. We still love Regis."

How fucken thick do you have to be to cut a Beatle's performance, especially after months of planning? I give kudos to Ringo for standing up for himself and not taking any shit. You're a Beatle, sir. They're lucky you didn't demand they pleasure your manhood.

So to Regis and Kelly, and their abortion-of-a-musical-director who I can only assume is the offspring of a retarded donkey and Courtney Love, go fuck yourselves and die.

Rock on, Ringo.

Ringo Starr Releases New Album, Even Hardcore Beatles Fans Are Unaware Of It...

Now, I had originally heard Ringo's Liverpool 8 album a few days ago, but for some reason I just figured it was another compilation and shrugged it off.

Apparently, Liverpool 8 is Ringo's latest album. It could be because I don't follow the video blogs on his website anymore, but I find it ironic that after returning to a major label after 30 years of being on small and independent labels, I knew less of this album coming out than I did of 2005's Choose Love album, which I knew about months in advance.

According to Stephen Thomas Erlewinde of allmusic, Liverpool 8 isn't as good as Choose Love, but I have been known to curse his mother quite a few times.

Anyway, I'm ordering the CD and hope to have it some time next week for a full review.

FCC To Re-test Using "White Space"...

After initial prototypes fell flat on their face, it seems like the White Space Coalition has new prototypes to test being able to use the "white spaces" in television broadcast spectrum for wireless broadband uses.

The new prototypes, submitted by Microsoft, Adaptrum, Motorola, and Philips, will be tested in labs for several weeks, and then tested in the field.

Radiohead Coming To Miami...

Yeah, I know I'm late on posting about this, but Radiohead is apparently coming to Miami. There's no word yet on a venue or date, but so far it is promised that they'll be visiting the magic city.
